Shari The Crate Lady

So we all know I hate plastic bags and what they have done to our environment. That is what made me start this project. When people asked me what I was going to do when they banned them my response is always, be happy for the turtles! Just like I always knew a mat made out of bags was the SHORT term solution to helping the homeless community in any way. I knew I wanted to do much much more which is why I quickly moved on to other donated items.

It is almost that time of year again, Market Season!  I start setting up this weekend.  I am now able to be on the other side of the table in a community I have loved my entire life.  I have always loved treasure hunting.  Whether it be at a markets, yard sale,...

When I started this project at that first school, I know I wanted it to be known.  However, even though it makes me giggle.... I love when I see that people are starting to really talk about what I am doing.  I thought it would be fun to post the articles. I am going...

They’re just kids

I got to experience something really eye opening. I almost feel bad that it had to be for me. I got invited out to Holmes High School. Which is in a city, yes. But does that mean that EVERYONE there has to be bad? All you ever hear about is how rough of an inner city school it was. I am someone who goes into lots of school. Rich schools, poor schools, big schools, little schools. In the past two years, I have been to them all. I learned one thing about these Holmes kids, they’re just kids! Not only that, they were polite kids!

Plarn for puppies

I cannot say enough good things about this shelter. I have said it before and I will say it again…. a lot of the ideas we have in our head of a county shelter with the scary dog catcher wanting to gas dogs isn’t always the case. In fact, I have seen many counties that are staffed with animal loving people who become that role to HELP animals. They will do whatever they can, sometimes calling many rescues to try and save each animal that they can. They are doing it while facing negativity, budget cuts and routinely seeing what evil harm people can do do animals. Not only did the staff take the time to show me around their SPOTLESS shelter and meet all the pups, they really had patience with me.

Bringing it back home

I do a lot of stuff with a lot of schools in my broader area. However, it is always fun to bring it back to my own community.

I don’t JUST like bags

For as long as I can remember I have liked old things. I loved yard sales and antique shops long before they were cool. I loved the thought people didn’t want that stuff anymore and I was getting more use out of it. Gee, imagine that.

I still can’t used to this….

Despite me wanting this project to take off to be big, it still amazes me when I hear that people “find me”. I am ridiculously thankful. I could not imagine working this hard and not having anyone care. However, I would still be crocheting with bags and most likely still want to be talking about it regardless. I am just so thankful I get shown that people are listening and enjoying what I have to say!
